Once a young person has participated in the leadership programs for two years in a row they are eligible to apply for the Moguls In Training (MIT) program. MIT is a program that supports young people as venture philanthropists, entrepreneurs and high academic achievers. MITs are responsible for distributing and monitoring local Powered By Service grants. Additionally, MITs receive training and opportunities including internships, ability to represent The New Look Foundation at local and regional events, academic enrichment and mentors in diverse fields. MITs also help spread the The New Look Foundation’s model to new communities as they embark on their own journeys at college. Most MITs are in their junior or senior year of high school. In their role as MITs they are the senior youth leaders who mentor and support youth who are just beginning the New Look Leadership Academy. MITs provide workshops and training for the younger youth and act as peer mentors. Additionally, MITs receive training in philanthropy and community investment. They are responsible for reviewing local applications for Powered By Service grants as well as offered peer to peer technical assistance for project implementation. In preparation for their next steps in education and careers, MITs receive a higher dose of mentoring and academic support. New Look Foundation partners and local volunteers provide young people with mentoring, tutoring, career preparation and other supports for the two years of the MIT program. The opportunities offered by these partners provide young people with access to internships, job shadowing, mentors and college preparation. After at least two years of programming most young people report increased college and career readiness, advancement on specific career tracks, increased soft and hard leadership skills and continuation of service-learning and community action activities.
