Announced with President William J. Clinton at the 2009 Clinton Global Initiative, New Look’s Powered By Service initiative supports youth around the world in creating positive change. This initiative is designed to change the face of service by offering young people the opportunity to combine their personal passions in arts, dance, music, sports, business, science, environment and other areas with leadership and action that builds transferrable skills and competencies. In underserved communities, New Look is redefining leadership, service and action as popular activities for young people from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Powered By Service is a youth-led, curriculum-based training where young people learn to identify their “talent” – those interests and passions special to them. They then explore issues they face in their community – college access, the environment, disaster relief, poverty, substance abuse, and others – and learn to identify the root cause of the problem. By designing their own solution, youth are more likely to stay involved and engaged as well as have a deeper investment in the success of their project. Micro-grants are available to support youth in the implementation of their projects.
