2011 WLC Recap

From July 20-22, 2011, the New Look Foundation hosted the World Leadership Conference for 347 youth from around the world. The training consisted of inspirational high level panels, foundational New Look training modules that comprise New Look’s curriculum and the introduction of 10 Powered By Service toolkits on issues ranging from education to environmental justice to malaria prevention to filmmaking to voter registration.

Results

  • 347 youth received Local Leadership Certification through peer-to-peer training of New Look’s Powered By Service model on issues ranging from education to environmental justice to voter registration.  
  • Thirteen youth joined 65 global professionals from the corporate and independent sectors in a “real world platform” to sharpen and display their skills as leaders by facilitating panels, workshops and conversations to support the Local Leadership Certification of Conference attendees; and  
  • Each youth certified formally committed to implement their own Powered By Service project within the next year to address a critical issue in their local community.
     

Impact

  • After the conference 92% of youth felt comfortable using their talents to create change, compared to 58% prior to the conference.
  • After the conference 95% of youth felt comfortable identifying a career that fulfills their passions compared to 79% prior to the conference.
  • After the conference 92% of youth felt prepared to lead a Powered By Service Project compared to 61% prior to the conference.
  • The most likely to be used toolkit is College Access is Powered By Service.
  • 97% of youth left feeling more equipped as a leader.
