Team & Staff Bios

Melissa Ely joined Usher’s New Look in March 2009. In her role as Development Assistant, she supports the organization’s array of programs and initiatives by generating funding through such strategies as corporate, individual and foundation relations, grant proposal and report writing, individual and major gifts, annual campaign, and Usher’s New Look Signature Event-World Leadership Conference and Awards.  Ms.

Gavin McGuire joined Usher's New Look Foundation in 2005 and currently serves as the National Academy Director. At UNL, he manages the daily operations in our core cities, provides training and professional development opportunities for New Look program coordinators, and establishes community and corporate partnerships with groups and individuals aligned with our mission. He brings over 15 years of experience in program and community development, with an emphasis on staff development and implementation strategies.

Robin Gittens joined Usher's New Look Foundation in September 2010 where she was initially charged with heading the Atlanta Leadership Academy.  Beginning in January 2011, National M.I.T. Coordinator was added to her title, making her responsible for the organization's college level students.  Having spent more than ten (10) years as a youth advocate, Ms. Gittens has worked and volunteered with many nationally recognized non-profit organizations, three of which are currently pipeline partners for Usher's New Look.  While in college, Ms.

Beth Pann joined Usher's New Look Foundation in 2011 and currently serves as the Director of Development.

Rosy Ricks is a writer and social activist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Currently, Ricks serves as the Program Coordinator for New Look’s Milwaukee chapter where she encourages youth to identify their spark through the foundation's four pillars of career, education, talent, and service. Since 2000, Ricks has been involved in community improvement through volunteer work, media contribution, and event organizing, with an emphasis on community education events such as workshops, panels, and discussions.

Keisha Richardson is living her dream in her ongoing commitment of giving back to youth. Appointed Program Coordinator for the Los Angeles chapter in 2012, she draws on years of service to youth and community.

James Harris began his adventure with Camp New Look in 2007. As a member of Youth Entrepreneurs of Kansas and graduate of J.C. Harmon High School, Harris was often selected to speak as a mentor to area youth and was involved in several student-teacher panel discussions designed to share perspectives on ways to improve the high school curriculum.

Jarvis-LaRue Brown is the Program Coordinator for New Look’s Detroit chapter. He is described by many as a multi-talented, creative, dependable and a dedicated leader.  At the tender age of thirteen Brown joined The Detroit Youth Foundation as a volunteer which gave him the opportunity to help his local neighborhood and express his talents. Grabbing a prestigious youth development award for his involvement with the KYDS VI, Jarvis realized early on that his passions were helping youth and creating music.

Daphne Doyle Benbow is the newest team member of the Usher New Look Foundation. Over the past eight (8) years, Ms. Benbow served as the Deputy Director of Corporate and Community Affairs at the Corporation for National and Community Service. At the  Corporation, she was responsible for increasing the agency’s development and national partnerships in support of the national volunteer and service programs and initiatives of the administrations of Presidents  Bush and Barack Obama.  Ms.
